Letters of Instruction

Requirements within the Letters of Instructions (LOI) are mandatory and legally enforceable under the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA).

These Instructions amend and replace the Instructions effective December 22, 2021.

The Instructions remain in effect until amended or rescinded by the Medical Officer of Health.

Measures and recommendations previously announced

December 8, 2021: Letter of Instruction

The Medical Officer of Health expanded the legally enforceable Instructions. New protective measures were implemented throughout the agency’s service area and those currently in force in Greater Sudbury were expanded to reach across the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts.

November 26, 2021: Letter of Instruction and strong recommendations

The Medical Officer of Health issued work-from-home Instructions under the Reopening Ontario Act, strong recommendations to area schools, businesses, and organizations, and implemented stricter protocols for contacts of COVID-19 cases.

November 15, 2021: Letter of Instruction

The Medical Officer of Health issued Instructions under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act that applies to anyone 12 years of age and older across the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts who actively participates in organized sports to provide proof of vaccination unless a medical exemption applies.

November 10, 2021: Letter of Instruction

Rapid rise in COVID-19 cases triggers additional, mandatory measures in Greater Sudbury, including reinstating capacity limits and related physical distancing requirements, strengthening masking requirements at organized public events held indoors and outdoors, and requiring proof of vaccination for anyone aged 12 and older actively participating in organized sports.

October 28, 2021: Class Order under the Health Protection and Promotion Act

The Medical Officer of Health issued a Class Order under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, requiring all individuals in Public Health Sudbury & Districts’ service area who are either a case, potential case or contact of a case to follow Public Health direction. The Order is enforceable by law.

October 28, 2021: Special Statement from the Medical Officer of Health

The Medical Officer of Health issued a Special COVID-19 Statement on the rise in COVID-19 cases and to reinforce public health measures.

September 29, 2021: Letter of Instruction

The Medical Officer of Health issued Instructions (amended November 15) to facility operators under the Reopening Ontario Act requiring anyone aged 12 and older coaching, officiating, or volunteering at indoor organized sports to provide proof of vaccination unless a medical exemption applies.

August 30, 2021: Recommendations from the Medical Officer of Health

The Medical Officer of Health strongly recommending that area employers develop and implement COVID-19 vaccination policies and support workplace vaccination.
