Now is the time to strengthen your COVID-19 protective measures

Statement from Medical Officer of Health, Public Health Sudbury & Districts, Dr. Penny Sutcliffe

Our latest data shows that the local COVID-19 risk index remains high, with worsening trends. The number of local cases has almost doubled since September and the percent of COVID-19 tests that are positive has increased to 15%—a number that has only been beaten for two weeks during the entire pandemic, to date. There are growing numbers of COVID-19 outbreaks, hospitalizations, and sadly, deaths. This is combined with early reports of influenza in our community.

Let there be no doubt. Now is the time to strengthen your personal protective measures if you haven’t already done so:

  • Always wear a well-fitted mask in indoor public places such as retail stores and public transportation. Just put it on.
  • Get your COVID-19 booster dose as soon as you are eligible.
  • Stay home and away from others if you’re not feeling well.
  • Book your flu shot.

In addition to protecting your own health, you are also protecting your elderly neighbour, the cashier with a weakened immune system, and the nurse you are going to count on if you do get sick. That’s a lot of benefit from a few simple actions.
