Public Health Sudbury & Districts advises of a potential public exposure to COVID-19

Update, October 13: The on-site COVID-19 testing scheduled for this afternoon, October 13, in Memorial Park, has been rescheduled to tomorrow, Thursday, October 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Testing will take place at the YMCA underground parking lot. Testing through the Health Sciences North Assessment Centre can still be scheduled, by appointment, through Health Sciences North by requesting an appointment online.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is investigating a COVID-19 outbreak and advising the public of a potential exposure to COVID-19 for anyone who spent time in Memorial Park located downtown in Greater Sudbury as of Monday, September 27. The potential risk of exposure is ongoing at this time. This exposure notice does not apply to individuals who just passed through the park. As of October 12, this outbreak includes three cases of COVID-19.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts and the City of Greater Sudbury are working with community service providers to identify additional cases or high-risk close contacts, limit any further spread, and to support the needs of affected individuals.

Actions to take:

Any individual who attended Memorial Park for a period longer than just passing though as of September 27 is advised to follow public health guidance:

  • Self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 for 10 days from last potential exposure.
  • Self-isolate immediately if symptoms develop.
  • Seek testing immediately regardless of whether you have symptoms.
  • Visit phsd.ca/COVID-19 to learn more about self-monitoring, self-isolation, symptoms, and testing.

On-site COVID-19 testing will be available at Memorial Park in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 13, and no appointment is needed at this location. City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services will be providing testing.

If needed, appointments can be arranged through the Health Sciences North Assessment Centre: the preferred option is to request an appointment online (Health Sciences North, https://secure.hsnsudbury.ca/COVID19AppointmentRequest) or call 705.671.7373 during regular business hours. If seeking testing at the Health Sciences North Assessment Center, please advise the testing centre that testing is being sought in relation this outbreak.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reminding everyone to follow public health measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 including the more transmissible variants of concern. The safest options are to limit close contact to your own household members, stay home and do not attend work or school when ill, work from home if possible, avoid non-essential travel, and remember to practise physical distancing, wear your mask, and wash your hands. For all outings, continue to screen yourself for symptoms and practise COVID-safe behaviours.
