The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has advised Public Health Sudbury & Districts that results from samples taken July 14, 2023, from Horwood Lake are positive for blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). The samples contained a species of cyanobacteria that can produce toxins.
Blue-green algal blooms could also appear in other parts of the lake. Because blooms are not anchored, they can move from one location to another through wind and water action. New blooms can also form. All residents on lakes should look for blooms in their area. Keep reading
With the release of recently updated COVID-19 vaccination guidelines by the Ontario Ministry of Health, Public Health Sudbury & Districts is recommending that all eligible individuals in need of a COVID-19 booster dose consider waiting until the fall to receive it. Doing so will provide greater protection before the typical increase of respiratory illnesses in the fall and winter months. To support ongoing access to COVID-19 testing, rapid antigen tests are available for free to people throughout Public Health Sudbury & Districts service area. Tests are available to individuals at high risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19, including persons who may be eligible for COVID-19 treatment.
