Your vote shapes more than your council. It shapes the streets you walk, the homes people can afford, the parks you enjoy, the services you rely on, and how connected you feel to your community.

This election, vote for healthier communities.

Key issues that affect your health

The issues below show how municipal decisions affect daily life.

Housing and community design

Where you live matters. Safe, affordable, and suitable housing helps keep you healthy, both physically and mentally. It also affects whether you can get to work, school, services, and the places that help you stay connected to your community.

Municipalities can

  • Help you find housing that fits your needs at different stages of life and earning potential by planning for a mix of housing options.
  • Make it easier to get to the places you use every day by building neighbourhoods close to services, schools, parks, recreation, and transportation.
  • Help you move around safely by creating sidewalks, trails, public spaces, and active transportation routes.
  • Create parks, trails, libraries, community centres, and public spaces where more people feel connected, included, and welcome.

Questions you can ask candidates:

  • How will you help make sure I have a safe, affordable place to live?
  • How will you make it easier for me to get the services I need close to home?
  • How will you make it easier for me and my family to use and enjoy parks, trails, beaches, and other public spaces?

Income and affordability

Income affects your health. You can be healthier when you have the money to afford housing, food, transportation, and other daily needs.

Municipalities can

  • Help make daily life more affordable by supporting wages that reflect the cost of living.
  • Help more people live with dignity by reducing poverty through local planning, policies, and advocacy.
  • Make the services and supports you rely on more affordable.

Questions you can ask candidates:

  • How will you make life more affordable for me and my family?
  • How will you support jobs and wages that help me meet my basic needs?
  • How will you help reduce poverty in my community?

Substance use and community well-being

A supportive community helps people stay healthy. Substance use prevention works best when people can ask for help early, access services without stigma, and get support close to home.

Municipalities can

  • Help you ask for support without fear of judgment by reducing stigma.
  • Make it easier for you or someone you care about to get help close to home.
  • Support a healthier, safer community by investing in prevention and mental health supports.

Questions you can ask candidates:

  • How will you help me get mental health and substance use support early?
  • How will you make support easier to reach close to home?
  • How will you help me feel safe, supported, and connected?
