Taking care of yourself: parents

Parenting provides many rewarding opportunities! However, it can also be challenging and exhausting at times. It is important to be able to take care of your needs in order to be able to take care of your children’s needs.

The first thing you can do as a parent or caregiver is to prevent problematic behaviours from occurring. The Triple P (Triple P of Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts) program offers tips and can help you to deal with and prevent behaviours.

The Heart and Stroke offers tips and recommendations to help you take care of yourself. From exercise, nutrition, and stress this resource can assist parents in taking the first steps to make some healthy choices to reduce the impact stress can have on your life.

If you are having difficulty with stress, depression or anxiety, it is very difficult to be a calm responsive parent. If you feel that you need help, reach out to someone you trust. Counselling services are available.

The Sudbury Best Start website can also provide information to parents on how to get assistance for obtaining help for housing, nutrition and transportation.
