Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

In Canada, some of the highest rates and increases in STIs are in young people ages 15 to 24. If you are sexually active you should get tested for STIs with each new sexual partner and you need to know how to protect yourself.

STIs are spread through sexual contact. Most STIs are easily treated, but if left untreated some STIs can cause serious illness, or even permanent damage such as infertility. If you are having sex, or thinking about having sex, you need to know how to protect yourself from sexually transmitted infections.
