Salary: $39.69 – $47.09/hour (as per CUPE collective agreement)
Position summary:
The incumbent will work collaboratively with agency staff, community partners, and personnel in community based congregate living settings. The purpose is to provide leadership, public health expertise and just-in-time advice, consultation, guidance and direct support required for the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) program delivery. The IPAC Practitioner is responsible for taking action to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases and health hazards in various sectors within the community using surveillance, auditing, and a preventative and responsive approach.
Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, specific tasks of the IPAC Practitioner include providing guidance on IPAC to community stakeholders, providing advice on the local implementation of public health practices.
The IPAC Practitioner promotes and protects individual and community health through education of pertinent provincial Acts and Regulations, standards, guidelines, and best practices.
The IPAC Practitioner works onsite and remotely in community-based congregate living settings.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as a resource person, providing just in time advice, regarding IPAC-related matters. IPAC-related matters can include, but are not limited to: client care practices such as routine practices and additional precautions; emerging infectious diseases; cleaning, disinfection and sterilization; pre-purchase evaluation of medical devices; construction, renovation and maintenance activities; consultations with various personnel in the community based congregate living setting; consultation with occupational health and safety personnel on staff issues associated with infectious disease transmission.
- Provides technical expertise, guidance and direction, and field support for the IPAC program within the community based congregate living setting relating to the review and revision of policies and procedures as developed by the setting.
- Acts as a liaison between Public Health Sudbury & Districts and the community based congregate living setting as required.
- Uses surveillance data to support, plan, and encourage the implementation of practice changes to improve client outcomes.
- Uses a systematic surveillance approach to monitor the effectiveness of IPAC strategies that are consistent with local goals and objectives.
- Works to proactively reduce risks that may jeopardize the agency and the community based congregate care living setting by causing direct client or staff harm, loss of public confidence, and/or financial liability.
- Performs functional audits and makes recommendations to the community based congregate living settings for improvement based on existing standards and guidelines.
- Maintains documentation records according to the professional and agency standards and provides reports and correspondence using appropriate computer software programs.
Requirements:
- A Baccalaureate degree in a health/infection prevention and control related field or its equivalent.
- Regulated professionals must be registered with their College and be a member in good standing or maintain certification as required.
- Minimum of one-year full time equivalent experience (within the last three years) in infectious diseases investigation is considered an asset.
- Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating adult education activities.
- Knowledge in client care practice, infectious disease processes and microbiology, routine practices and additional precautions, surveillance, research utilization and education, epidemiological and statistical principles and how these activities impact client safety.
- Knowledge of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, as well as relevant regulations.
- Demonstrates communication skills both written and verbal including public speaking, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Demonstrates team building, coaching, and mentoring skills.
- Thinks critically and analyzes issues using a systematic and solutions-based approach.
- Demonstrates initiative and ability to work in a rapidly changing environment including challenging deadlines.
- Excellent organizational abilities and technical competence with a high degree of initiative and self-direction and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrates computer proficiency including the use of Microsoft Office or the Microsoft Teams platforms.
- Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
- Maintains current Ontario driver’s license and has access to a reliable vehicle with agency required insurance to fulfill position requirements.
- Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.
