Location: Main Office – 1300 Paris St., Sudbury
Current Work Location Arrangement: Partial On-site – The position requires a combination of regular on-site and remote work. Reasons and schedules can vary, but workers attend on-site regularly (for example, each week).
Salary: $39.59 – $52.10/per hour (as per ONA collective agreement)
Position summary:
We are currently seeking a highly motivated health professional to contribute to our organizational mission of working with our communities to promote and protect health and prevent disease.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Nurse will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating Health Protection programs within Public Health Sudbury & Districts. The incumbent will work specifically within all aspects of the Vaccine Preventable Diseases Program organizing and administering immunizations at schools, office clinics and within the community, supporting cold chain maintenance, ISPA/CCEYA legislation and Panorama immunization data entry.
Responsibilities:
- Provides input for the ongoing development of the program/service activities.
- Provides input for the ongoing development of program policies and procedures at the agency, division, program and team level.
- Supports programs to emphasize population health, and promotion of health and client engagement to meet the Ontario Public Health Standards (2018), and local needs.
- Assists with the division’s student placement program and acts as a preceptor for assigned students.
- Acts as a resource person to the organization and the community.
- Along with fellow team members, participates in the team-specific orientation for new staff members.
- Participates in division and team in-services.
- Proficiency in administering injections as authorized under Controlled Acts (Nursing Act 1991).
- Knowledge of the publicly funded vaccine schedule.
- Competency to work under the authority of medical directives.
- Uses clinical skills to assess the client’s health status to enable joint planning, implementation and evaluation of appropriate nursing interventions.
- Provides nursing care and counselling on health-related issues.
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessment.
- Supports the essential duties of other public health nurses in their absence.
- Maintains documentation records according to the standards of the College of Nurses and provides reports.
- Writes articles for newsletters, newspapers and other media.
- Skills relating to public and media relations.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Non-judgmental and client-centered approach to service planning and delivery.
- Ability to work under pressure, to anticipate potential problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency.
Requirements:
- Recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing Degree.
- Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current CPR level C certification.
- Minimum of one-year full time equivalent experience (within the last three years) in the area of vaccine preventable diseases.
- Minimum of one-year full time equivalent experience in the area of Medication Administration (within the last three years) or successful completion of a Medication Administration refresher course (within the last two years).
- Advance written proficiency in English is essential.
- Advanced proficiency in French (oral and written) is an asset.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check (vulnerable sector) is a condition of employment.
- Current Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
