Talk Tobacco is a free, confidential program offering culturally appropriate support and information about quitting smoking, vaping and commercial tobacco use to First Nations, Inuit, Métis, and urban Indigenous communities. Certified respiratory educators offer free information and guidance on a variety of lung health concerns, including smoking cessation counselling and information on quitting vaping. Call: 1.888.344.5864.

NIHB provides annual coverage for Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). A prescription for NRT is required from a health care provider to receive NRT through the NIHB program.

Contact any Aboriginal health access centre, Indigenous health organization or pharmacy to learn more about prescription medications to help you quit.

Contact your health benefits or group insurance to find out if smoking cessation medication is an eligible benefit of your plan.

Adults 18 years or older who receive ODB can receive 12 weeks of Champix or Zyban at no cost each year. Other NRT products used to help quit smoking are not covered. A pharmacist or health care provider can assist with counselling for those interested in quitting smoking.

Contact your family physician, family health team, nurse practitioner, community health centre, addiction agency or pharmacies to learn more about prescription medications to help you quit.

Pharmacists may be able to provide counselling and prescribe Champix and Zyban.
