The North East Tobacco Control Area Network (NE TCAN)

Who we support and our partners
The NE TCAN supports the Smoke-Free Ontario Strategy (SFOS). The SFOS is a multi-level comprehensive tobacco control strategy which aims to eliminate tobacco related illness and death; by preventing experimentation and use among youth and young adults, increasing and supporting cessation/quit attempts and protecting the health of people.
The Ministry of Health funds 7 regional Tobacco Control Area Networks that range in size from 1 to 9 public health departments. These networks facilitate coordination at the local and regional levels, ensure the needs of public health departments are met and maximize the effective use of resources.
The NE TCAN is comprised of 5 public health units: Algoma Public Health, North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, Porcupine Health Unit, Temiskaming Health Unit, and the coordinating public health unit, Public Health Sudbury & Districts.
