Public Health is notified when the safety of drinking water is compromised. Public Health may issue a boil water advisory or a drinking water advisory to owners or operators of regulated drinking water systems.

Drinking water guidelines (Health Canada) are designed to protect the health of the most vulnerable members of society, such as children and older people. The guidelines set out the basic parameters that every water system should strive to achieve in order to provide the cleanest, safest, and most reliable drinking water possible.
