Advisory Alert
To: Local Health System Partners
Effective September 2, 2025
Health Canada has issued a market withdrawal of all COVID-19 KP.2 vaccines in Canada (i.e. the 2024-25 COVID-19 vaccine formulations). This is part of the regulatory process to authorize the 2025-26 COVID-19 vaccine formulations for the upcoming respiratory infection season.
If you have product on hand, please discontinue use and quarantine any remaining supply of COVID-19 KP.2 vaccines starting September 2 (even if the product has not expired). Please return your existing supply and update COVaxON in a timely manner.
If clients are seeking COVID-19 vaccination, please inform them that immunization of the new LP.8.1 formulation is recommended, once available. Distribution of the updated LP.8.1 vaccine is expected to begin in late September. We will provide further guidance at that time.
Please refer to the attached memo from the Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH), Public Health for further guidance:
Sincerely,
Original Signed By
M.Mustafa Hirji, MD, MPH, FRCPC
Acting Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer
