34-26  AFFIRMING AND ADVANCING FRENCH LANGUAGE SERVICES AT PUBLIC HEALTH SUDBURY & DISTRICTS

MOTION:

WHEREAS Public Health Sudbury & Districts serves a region with a significant Francophone population, with approximately 21% of residents identifying French as their first official language spoken;

AND WHEREAS both long-standing Francophone community members and French-speaking newcomers rely on accessible, culturally appropriate public health services to support health, safety, and integration;

AND WHEREAS the Board of Health has established a longstanding policy commitment to providing equitable, accessible, and culturally competent French-language public health services for Francophone populations;

AND WHEREAS Public Health Sudbury & Districts lives this commitment through the active offer of service, bilingual service delivery, translation of public facing materials, staff training, community partnerships, and cross-agency engagement through the Francophone Advisory Committee; these efforts collectively support equitable health outcomes and help mitigate risks related to client safety and service quality and accessibility and;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Board of Health for Public Health Sudbury & Districts

•  Affirms its commitment to equitable high-quality, culturally- and linguistically-appropriate French-language public health services for populations across Sudbury and districts in all programs and service delivery points;
• Supports the continued advancement of French Language Services, including the active offer of service, workforce capacity development, community partnerships, and integration of Francophone perspectives in program planning and delivery;
• Recognizes French Language Services as integral to health equity, accessibility, and the organization’s mission to promote and protect the health of all communities served.
