Discontinuation of the Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids Adsorbed and Inactivated Poliomyelitis (Td-IPV) Vaccine
November 26, 2018
* Cette information est seulement disponible en anglais.
To community health care providers:
Please be advised that effective November 23, 2018, Td-IPV (Td Polio Adsorbed) vaccine manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur Ltd., will be discontinued.
While once widely administered as part of the adolescent immunization program under the Immunization of School Pupils Act, its use has declined since the adolescent dose of polio was removed as a requirement under the Act.
The current stock of Td-IPV in circulation will expire on January 31, 2019. Please review your Td-IPV inventory to identify product that is expiring soon and offer vaccination as a priority to eligible adults requiring vaccination including:
- unimmunized or under-immunized adults (the number of doses required depends on the number of doses of Td and IPV previously received);
- adults travelling to/working in areas that have wild polio or vaccine-derived polio outbreaks and are due for their 10 year Td vaccine. These persons are eligible for a single adult lifetime dose of polio vaccine.
Separate Td and IPV vaccines are available and will be provided to your office to replace the discontinued Td-IPV product. Please anticipate your need for Td and IPV vaccines and continue to order these as required, through your usual ordering process.
Should you have any questions, please contact the immunization program at 705.522.9200, ext. 301.
